So I heard you're interested in our little establishment. Well, there's a bit of learning involved and I'm happy to help with that. Perhaps we should start with a tasting?

[Arkady is puttering around, teleporting now and again to save time or rescue a dropped glass. She's clearly coping with her loss, but wears the occasional sadface. She's pretty much letting in anyone who knocks.]

Oh, it's no bother at all. [She is fiddling about with fresh mint leaves back there, and the smell is quite pleasant.]

All twelve of us were born at the exact same time in the South of England, and our minds were joined even then. We grew up together. Everyone eventually developed their own powers and skills, but telepathy was the basis.

No one knows, though, where they or we came from. The government experimented on us for years to try and sort it out, but of course they didn't share their findings.

Fascinating. I wonder if it's some kind of genetic mutation, though it seems exceptionally rare that twelve unrelated people would manifest something so similar. Of course, evolution does depend on what's seemingly exceptionally rare at any given time.

[He pauses, enjoying the mint leaf smell.]

I think all people in higher powers enjoy being secretive, oftentimes to control those below them.

No. We escaped. There was an explosion caused by their experiments on our brains, and we got out that way.

...the whole thing was a horrible mess. We were fifteen, very angry and very scared.

Well...first there was the bit about being chased by tanks and helicopters for a few months. Then the disaster came, and we were able to disappear in the chaos.

After that we found our way to Whitechapel, cleaned the place up and started taking in refugees.

[She sips her own drink, a faint guilty look on her face.]

It needed doing. And really...if you're a psychonaut, if you're really into becoming aware, your moral development grows as well. You can't see...really see people...and not love them at least a little.

[She bounces in her seat.] Oh, I am glad that you like it. I love being creative and showing people new experiences, even if it is just a new drink.

Oh yes! We have lovely mints, I smell them whenever it is warm. Apparently they grow very, very fast!

Hm, I haven't. I haven't tried most foods, but many of them that I tried, I liked. I wonder if the cafeteria would make some.
