 [The screen pops on to reveal an unfamiliar, unsmiling woman in a severe militaristic uniform with no markings. Her skin is pale, her eyes are purple and except for her cold expression she could nearly be Arkady's twin in a wig.]

This is Kait. Freakangels Clan. I have been handling the bar in Arkady's absence.

I am announcing an open bar for the remainder of Sunday. Non alcoholic options will be available for the underaged or alcohol restricted. This bar is safe territory. Everyone who enters is under my protection. Troublemakers will be escorted to Zero. Troublemakers who actually do damage will be shot, then escorted to Zero.

[Tiny twitch of a smile.] Police, superheroes and their relatives are invited to have a drink with me.

[Arkady at this point would be setting up shots, but Kait is not much with the empathy.]

Hrmph. [She goes behind the counter and brings back a bottle of whiskey and a glass.] This should do it.

[Rorschach spares enough attention for the post to log the details, the temporary change in management, enough time to decide he approves. Not that it's superior to the usual, necessarily, but it's an acceptable change, even if only temporary. Unlike some of the others.

And so it is that he wanders into the bar, spending a few long moments looking her over, as well as the rest of the clientele, evaluating, before striding up to the bartender.]

Coffee. [A beat.] Please.

[There is a faint smell of gun oil as he gets near the counter. She is either packing or has one behind the counter or both. Her eyes are as hard as the ones he sees in the mirror, and just as observant.]

Of course. How do you take it? [She goes for a mug, never giving anyone her back.]

Cream. Lots of sugar.

[She's familiar in the way she moves, the way she commands the room. He can respect it; there's too little of that in the circles he ran in back home. Maybe if there'd been more of it things would have gone better.

He doesn't sit, not yet, he's too busy getting a feel for the room now that he's crossed it. Who may be a threat, who won't be. Who may be once they've gotten some alcohol in them.]

[She sets up a cup of coffee which from the smell is cop-shop special: as goddamn strong as coffily possible.] Rocket fuel. Understood.[Once it is properly creamed and sugared she passes it across. The whole time she's quietly taking his measure as well.]

It's necessary. Arkady is inviting a security disaster with her lackadaisical ways and for a few days at least I intend to make a difference. Barge security is paramount.

I think the infirmary might be a little understaffed at the moment, so you might want to be careful about the shooting people thing.

[You've got a slightly suspicious House here. He's not sure how he feels about Arkady at the moment--not since she was appointed his warden--but he's got some definite reservations about you.]

You don't think shooting might be a little excessive?

No, I don't. Over fifty percent of the Inmate population has superhuman abilities or the requisite combat skills to make up the difference. Against that, the average person just coming for a drink is relatively defenseless. I see no problem with taking a hard line for the basic safety of the general populace.

And what if it's one of the 'relatively defenseless' people who's causing the trouble?

[That is not him suggesting HE might do such a thing. Of course it isn't.]

They are capable of considerably less damage and their treatment will be adjusted accordingly. The idea is to give a proper chance for the less well defended.

Do try to refrain from harming people if you can help it- You know Arkady, then? One of her friends from home?

We're FreakAngels. We work together. That's it. [She scowls slightly, remembering a certain teleported dip in the Thames.] No force will be applied save where necessary. As I understand it there is a staff shortage in the Infirmary.

[Balthazar has been at the bar for a while.]

Hrmph. [She brings the bottle and meticulously starts lining up shots. Her eyes are taking his measure pretty much constantly.]

[He is a wiry man with pale eyes and thin lips. He looks tired, but sharp.]

Right then, sorry. [She switches glasses and adds some ice, then brings back his drink. It's generous, not watered, but she herself seems like her bullet proof vest is on too tight or something.]

Coming up. [She has to take a moment to sort out all the bottles, then pours three fingers into a glass and brings it back.]

You're in uniform. [Sort of.]
