A very clever fellow I met recently posed the question: why is there no live music in the pub? Perhaps we can fix this. Do we have any musicians on board whom I can lure out of the closet?

Surely I rate a better adjective than merely 'clever.' Genius comes to mind. Brilliant would work, too. [He's not actually offended, just teasing.]

Oh these? I threw this idea past a few of the lads when Captain Kirk suggested a moustache growing contest for March. But I don't have any moustache paste!

Of course it is. All my ideas are brilliant. [You know, if you don't count all the really, truly horrible ideas he's had.]

Right, the mustache contest--so unfair to exclude most of the ladies. You know, doctors have a glue we can use for small cuts. It might work to hold your feather-stache in place.

That sounds brilliant! I'll pop down to the infirmary and confuse Dr. McCoy.

You do that. I'm pretty sure McCoy hasn't had enough confusion in his life.

It was excellent fun. Pirates, gold, sword fights, booze--what's not to like? What about you? How did you spend your time in Barcaza?

I was a barmaid! Hee hee hee. Of course I was in a much more interesting situation than here. Stildyne owned the bar, and I had two coworkers--lovely people--and met all sorts.

I am truly sorry I missed the chance to see you as a bar wench.

But I did manage to get thrown out of one tavern. [Yes, he does sound pleased by that accomplishment.]

So rowdiness, but no death? That's a good one. I just loved being part of a good team. Stildyne was a decent fellow in that incarnation too. Though of course, he is always grouchy and blunt on the surface. But as you've probably figured, I'm used to that.

I like to think of it as swashbuckling, but yeah, that's the general idea.

Are you implying I have a tendency toward grouchiness? [Well, of course you are, and he knows he is.] Chief's not a bad guy. He helped me out with a small problem.

Compared to our gardener and watchman back home, for example, you are actually positively charming. It's a bit of a continuum.

Chief's an asset to this crew, just as he was an asset to that one. I introduced him to Turkish Coffee. Have you had?

Yeah, that's pretty much the only way I appear charming--when compared to even bigger jerks than me.

I have had. Most of the time I stick to regular coffee but Turkish coffee is a nice treat every now and then.
