for [livejournal.com profile] lastvoyages: First Vision [video+spam]

[Have a spritely young bald woman in filmy clothes, perching on a scratched wooden desk and beaming at you. Her eyes are bright, bright purple and almost seem to glow slightly, and she is very pale.]

Hullo everybody! I'm Arkady, and I'm from the Island of Whitechapel. Of course, for most of you Whitechapel isn't an island, but we had a little problem with the Thames getting loose from its banks, and ever since then things have been a bit wet in London. Whitechapel has about twice as many people as this place, and we just took on a hundred more. We'll make do, though. We just need to pull together. [It's not clear whether she's speaking of Whitechapel or the Barge. Both maybe?]

I'm to be a Warden here, and if there's a need for help anywhere, do let me know! [She pauses, blinks at the screen, and then leeeeans forward and peers into it as if she can see some of you on the other side. A giggle; the purple eyes blink and she pulls back again.]

I'll be up on Deck in the gardens if anyone wants to say hello! Yay flowers!

[A few seconds later she literally appears a few feet from the Colour Garden, which she immediately crouches down to inspect.] Hello flowers!

Oh, you're right down the hall. I'll stir up a pot and be right down.

[True to form, she's knocking on the door in about ten minutes, carrying a teapot in her free hand.]

[Fast tea is fast.

Claire opens the door with a bright smile.]

Hey, that was quick. Please, come in.

[She steps back to allow entrance, then stops.]

GAH! Wait, sorry, you're not allergic to dogs, right?

Doggies? Yay! [She looks around hopefully. Doggies are even better than chikkens!]

My Whitechapel flat doesn't have all things, but the kitchen works all right for tea. [The teapot she has brought looks a little chipped and scratched, but is clean and a pretty dark blue porcelain.] Here we are!

[There's a long, long pause on his end for a moment.]

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...London's just a special place to me - to a lot of people, actually.

I'm John.

London is special, and so are her people. It's why we settled there to help. We're from this flat little Southern village, the twelve of us. And Alice is from Manchester. But Whitechapel was the best place to make a stand for the survivors.

Hullo John! Please don't worry. My Wish is to help all Britain, it's why I'm here! Who knows, perhaps it will help all the Britains. I'm not being very specific!

People here are starved for it. A little kindness and thoughtfulness, a strawberry, a spot of tea. Besides, would you ever trust a psychic who wasn't kind?

That's all right. Everyone has problems. I get mumbly and strange and sometimes blurt out things I shouldn't. Oh and I do pop in on people unexpectedly.

I think we'll manage all right!

[Now that allergies are out of the way, Claire pulls the door back again to allow entrance. Izzy (http://cdn-www.dailypuppy.com/media/dogs/anonymous/Jake_Chocolate_Lab_01.jpg_w450.jpg) hangs back, curious, but Chester (http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR-lM7eq1xEQJkNdW-YVbk6jADpSMMd4Ce5oGpEzW8VFHNJUZV3dQ&t=1) greets the bald lady with licks and happy yips (but he does not jump up).]

That one's Chester and the lab is Izzy. They don't bite friendly people. [Small chuckle.] You can sit where ever you like.

[There was a chair at her vanity table, another at her desk, and of course, the bed.]

You keep saying Whitechapel...can I ask what that is?

Arkady plopped into the desk chair and set the teapot down. "Whitechapel used to be a district of London, but unfortunately it's now the only colony left in London. Six years ago the water level rose ten meters and turned Whitechapel into an island." She reached down to offer scritchies to the smaller dog as she talked.

"The other Freakangels and I take care of the people there."

[Claire grabbed two cups and gave them over to Arkady, looking more and more confused. She obviously was from a different version of Earth or the future, since England was still in tact when Claire left.]

And the Freakangels...who are you guys? Are you actually angels?

[Last angel Claire had seen was Gabriel.]

[Arkady busied herself with pouring the tea.]

Nobody truly knows what we are. We were all twelve born at the same time in a little village in the South of England. Our mothers at least were human. But everyone with the Freakangels Package looks a little odd: purple eyes, pale skin. And, of course, we all have powers.

This is my first time apart from them. It gets a bit lonesome.

[She offers a cup of tea.]

Spam - p.s. what does this tea taste like as I am not sure I've had pineapple mint, >.<

[identity profile] some-kinda-hero.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[She laughed, not because anything the girl had said was funny, but because it was similar in ways to her own story, her own life. Not wanting to seem rude, Claire explained:]

Sorry, it's just, I can relate to the whole having powers and not knowing who or what you are. There was a time when I even questioned if I was human or not.

[Though, she was pretty certain she was. Claire took the offered tea and blew on it to aide the cooling process.]

The tea had a sweetish smell and taste to it, minty but with a sort of pineappley aftertaste, as if it had been sweetened with a few drops of pineapple juice.

"You're a person, Claire. That's all that matters. My mum was human which means I'm tied to humans as well as the FreakAngels. All of us are tied together. I could show you an example but it's a little trippy." She poured her own tea and then went back to pettingses.

"I am the psychonaut of our group. I learn the powers and unpack the Package and lead the way for the others to learn new powers. I also teleport. Which means I can get people to the Infirmary very fast!"

A curious blink. "You have a Package too?"

[Soft giggling]

No no, I always appear outside and knock. It was part of my deal. I only ever popped in on someone's private space once without an open invitation, and that was because he was about to use his powers cruelly on someone.

Our people have laws about our powers and how they are used.

[Claire found the tea to her liking and was grateful Arkady brought a pot, as she looked forward to a second cup. She chuckled, watching Chester lick at the other girl's hand.] He sure likes you.

[Which was comforting since he oft times seemed able to judge the people she allowed in her room.

She listened to Arkady explain with a look that crossed between confusion and interest. At the question asked, she nodded, assuming that Package meant ability.
] Yeah, I can heal. Rapid cellular regeneration. It...comes in handy, [she laughed.] I knew someone who could teleport. He could travel back in time too with it...can you do that?

Animals and childred get on with me very well for the most part. I haven't tried talking to a doggie's mind yet though. Just birds.

[Blink blink] Oh. Oh, that's lovely! It must be uncomfortable at times, but lovely.

[She sips her tea and thinks on it, brow wrinkling slightly.] I can see some bits of the future, but I cannot go forward or back yet. Perhaps some day! But not now. Your friend has opened his Package a bit more than I have opened mine.

Wait, you can talk to animals?

It's a new thing I just learned! Animal minds are a little different. You know how people talk to themselves in their heads--subvocalizations? Animals don't have that. They just have all the stuff that comes behind the words. Feelings and sensations and memories. Like having a conversation with a baby. It's all happy noises and sad noises and that sort of thing.

So I can tell you what sort of treat your doggies want, but not what their opinions on politics are.
